SUSTAINABLE LIVING FAIR, SUSTAINAPALOOZA RETURN: CoMo celebrates Going Green Saturday

Promoting livability through sustainability

COLUMBIA, Mo 10/17/14 (PSA) --  The Columbia Sustainable Living Fair (SLF) returns Saturday, Oct. 18, and with help from the city's Office of Sustainability, it has moved to City Hall at 8th and Broadway.  

Mid-Missouri’s premier sustainability education event, SLF will feature two dozen booths, 8 on-site workshops, three "green" eebuilding tours, and a keynote talk on Agriburbia by Quint Redmond.   Though the Fair starts at 10 a.m. an early bird tour of The Broadway, Columbia’s newest -- and greenest -- hotel, departs at 9 a.m., returning for the first workshop session, which starts at 10:30.
 
Workshops include Passive Solar Building & Design, about sunspaces and greenhouses; Composting with Fall's abundant organiic materials;  Harvesting the Rain & the Sun, presented by engineeer and local sustainability expert Tom O’Connor; and
Much ADU About Mini-houses, or Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) a new Columbia ordinance allows on certain lots.  

Representatives from Columbia's new Green Chamber of Commerce will also attend. 

Running today, Sustainapalooza is a related event sponsored by the local chapters of the U.S. Green Building Council and the American Institute of Architects.
