Could a three-way race be shaping up?
COLUMBIA, Mo 1/8/14 (Beat Byte) -- Columbia's First Ward City Council race may soon get two more entrants: Matthew Huffman and Duell Lauderdale.
Both men have been gathering signatures on the petition necessary to file, rallying friends on social media, and discussing future campaign events.Lauderdale's tentative plans include a campaign announcement this Thursday at the Bridge.
Ginny Chadwick, 36, filed for the seat in November, shortly after incumbent Councilman Fred Schmidt decided against a second term.A Mizzou graduate student and long-time small business manager, Chadwick served as Mr. Schmidt's campaign treasurer during the 2011 race.
Both Lauderdale and Huffman have advocacy backgrounds.Lauderdale has directed the Mizzou chapters of Students for Sensible Drug Policy, a group committed to legalizing marijuana; and Tigers for Universal Health Care, which seeks single-payer coverage nationwide.
Huffman has worked as a program development specialist for the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, (MCADSV) and youth outreach coordinator at True North, a Columbia-based shelter. MCADSV executive director Colleen Coble was a two-term First Ward City Council representative, from 1993-1999.
