CITY WEBSITE DOWN: Server failure blamed for nearly two-day outage

Latest -- and longest -- in a pesky string of website crashes

COLUMBIA 8/13/12 (Beat Byte) -- A failed Internet server has caused a nearly two-day outage of the City of Columbia's website -- www.gocolumbiamo.com -- according to a city staffer.

A critical link to city services -- from crime reports to utility billing -- the city's website has suffered several recent but smaller failures.  "Page won't load" or "Browser cannot find server" are the most common responses when the website is down. 

This latest failure started sometime Sunday.  "IT services was notified this morning," the staffer explained, referring to Monday.   No predictions as to when the site would be back online.
