FAB PHOTOS: Capture 60's Black History at Mizzou

COLUMBIA, 3/6/11  (Beat Byte) -- A recently-completed photo exhibit in the Angus and Betty McDougall Center for Photojournalism Studies at the Missouri School of Journalism's Lee Hills Hall brings the work of  legendary Montgomery, Ala. photojournalist Charles Moore to the Mizzou campus. 

 

Moore took some of the most famous shots of the Civil Rights era, including dogs and fire hoses in Birmingham and Martin Luther King’s arrest in Montgomery.  His work is widely credited for hastening passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

 

Entitled "Black in America," the exhibit includes a 27-minute documentary featuring Moore discussing the era he helped immortalize.  In three parts, the exhibit also features a Masters project on Black Fraternities authored by Mizzou photojournalism student Jarrad Henderson and "Documenting the Black Experience in Rural Missouri."

 

"Black in America" runs until March 15.
