Columbia Rallies to Help Joplin After the Tornado
I realize this is the third email in as many days, but we had a tremendous response from Heart Beat readers announcing ways to help Joplin after yesterday's note. Most of these events are going on this week so need to get the word out now. I've included the name and contact information of the person or persons who sent the information along to us.

We have all seen and heard the reports about the tornado in Joplin last night. Everyone in the REALTOR® family is wondering what we can do to help in the relief efforts. Kim Cox, the Joplin AE, has specifically asked for shoes. The Columbia Board of REALTORS® is collecting shoes—all kinds and all sizes—to send to Joplin. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Thank you for keeping the people of the Joplin area in your thoughts and prayers.

KFRU Radio 1400 AM and the Columbia Board of Realtors will be in the Schnuck's parking lot with REALTORS® Shannon O'Brien and Brent Gardner KFRU Tuesday and Wednesday morning, from 6 - 10am, collecting shoes.
We need men’s, women’s and children’s shoes. Grab your old (but not gross, still sturdy, etc.) sneakers and come see Shannon O'Brien and Brent Gardner and the CBOR staff at Schnucks! We will also collect shoes at the CBOR office all day today, tomorrow and until noon on Wednesday!

The MU Center for Family Policy is collecting donation of supplies that will help the infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in Joplin who have been affected by the tornado. They made a similar delivery to Mississippi after Katrina.

United For Joplin fundraiser

3500 Buttonwood Drive in Columbia, Mo.
5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Sponsored by the Heart of Missouri United Way, companies of Museao, and KOMU 8. We are asking that individuals provide donations, which are tax deductible through the United Way. We are also asking for local businesses to begin fundraising within their own company. All funds collected will go directly to the community of Joplin for recovery efforts.
Live entertainment and appetizers will be provided. A live telethon produced by KOMU 8 will be hosted by Sarah Hill and broadcast worldwide. During the telethon, community leaders will be answering donation calls.

D Rowe’s Restaurant will be doing a food collection drive by the restaurant on Saturday. All items will be staged at the Food Bank for deployment to Joplin when SEMA allows us in.

Collection site for blankets, pillows, small amounts of clothing, toilet paper, tooth brushes, diapers, bottled water, and factory seal food items.
Fry-Wagner Moving Co. has agreed to transport the items to the Salvation Army in Joplin.
